Office of Operations Support

The Office of Operations Support is comprised of the Operations Support Commander who holds the rank of captain and a part time technical assistant.

The managers of the Records & Communications Division and the Parking & Traffic Services Division report to the Operations Support Commander.

Records & Communications Division

The Records and Communications Division is the field operations support unit of the police department. The Division is responsible for providing police and public safety communications services including telephone, radio and computer communication through the operation and management of the police department's Communications Center (CommCenter); police records processing, distribution, and file maintenance; and police and public safety data collection, analysis and reporting. The central hub for all activity of this division of the department is the CommCenter.

The UCAPD Communications Center is the primary point of contact between the Department and the university community and is operated 24 hours a day for police and public safety responses. One manager, eight full time communications specialists, and three part time dispatchers are assigned to the CommCenter and their duties include:

  • Receive incoming calls for assistance
  • Dispatch police officers and other emergency (fire and medical) services
  • Monitor intrusion, fire and energy management alarms and closed-circuit television surveillance systems
  • Prioritize requests for assistance; maintain the status of police officers in the field
  • Operate criminal justice computer systems and provide officers with critical criminal offender and other record information
  • Process and manage police reports and related files, distribute police reports to departments and the public, and maintain computerized dispatch and activity logs.

Parking & Traffic Services Division

The Parking and Traffic Services Division is responsible for the coordination and supervision of parking and traffic administrative operations. This includes the development, sales and distribution of parking permits; processing debt set-off and notification processes for non-payment of parking and traffic fines; updating of scofflaw reports; collection and reconciliation of permit fees and parking fines; implementation of revenue control systems; maintaining campus and municipal citation files; effecting legal notification of vehicle impounds; distributing traffic and parking brochures and information; coordinating parking reservations; and providing other services for motorists utilizing campus roadways and parking facilities.

The Office of Parking and Traffic Services, staffed by a full time manager and a part time cashier, is open to serve the academic community Monday - Friday, from 8:00am to 4:00pm. All inquiries regarding permits, payment of fines, and flags should be directed to this office during operating hours.  Operating hours may be extended during periods of class registration and fee payment.
